ABW Day
On September 22, 1949, Hilary A. Bufton, Jr., a Kansas City, Missouri businessman, founded the American Business Women's Association to support business women by helping them reach their educational and career goals. ABWA has dedicated more than 60 years to women's education and provided workplace skills and career-development training for members.
In 1983, a joint Congressional resolution signed by President Ronald Reagan proclaimed Sept. 22nd, the date of the Association’s founding, as American Business Women’s Day. The proclamation set aside this date to annually recognize the achievements not only of ABWA members but also the millions of employed women in the United States.
